Bright: Hatred = Murder

Rainbow Snippets is a group for LGBTQ+ authors, readers, and bloggers to gather once a week to share six sentences from a work of fiction–a WIP or a finished work or even a 6-sentence book recommendation (no spoilers please!).

In this group you’ll find anything from romance and historical fiction to mystery and YA. The common thread is that every story’s main character identifies as LGBTQ+. The snippets could range from zero flames to full-on sexytimes, anything goes content-wise. The only rule is snippets will be 6 sentences long–one for each color in the Pride flag.

Hello Snippeteers…forgive me if I’m mixed up and calling us by the wrong name haha!

I figured I’d do a little “thematic” thing. Since I did an “action driven” post the last time, snippetted from ARMOUR, why not a dramatic, action-themed offering from my 2nd novel, BRIGHT, in which a very hateful character literally tries to snuff out someone she once “loved” in her twisted, covetous, disturbing way:

“I’ve known for so long that she wants me dead. No wonder I’ve been so afraid. Ma’s hands tighten around my neck, squeezing, asphyxiating me. My lungs and brain are starving. And yet, I still don’t want to believe she’s trying to kill me. It hurts too much to believe it.”

Song of the week: “Get Out Of My House!” by Kate Bush. I listened to this song over and over while writing the scene where Helena attempts to murder Walter by strangulation. The song is from Walter’s POV of course. It’s also on my “Bright Dream Playlist” on YouTube.
